deep purple’s 19th studio album sees the light of day. it is being released by the german based label earmusic. the band’s last studio effort dates back to 2005’s ‘rapture of the deep’ so this is a long time coming.
this will make album number four to feature steve morse on guitar and the third with keyboardist don airey. as previously reported, concrete information on the album title is, shall we say, up in the air. “there’s a big question mark over the name at the moment. and possibly an exclamation mark as well.” vocalist ian gillan told classic rock magazine.

lessismore record label, founded in 2003 by the dutch dj and producer alexis tyrel together with mbc, has been home for mostly his own releases under all his monikers and various artist compilations. “return to planet alpha” continues in this tradition, being a second long-player of alexis tyrel after his debut “newtradition” from 2011.
“return to planet alpha” is a collection of elegant techno tracks which instead of following the now so popular dark and destructive path focuses on daily moods and airy atmosphere, which is closer to open air and lounge than to sweaty pits of contemporary rave. but that doesn’t mean that the twelve tracks are just indistinctive background music. for one thing, tyrel is a master of slick and tight beat foundations of kick drums and bass, often smoothed out with cool synth pads, onto which he layers all kinds of rhythmical chains, subtle melodic ideas and sounds ranging from vintage synths and industrial bits to organic textures and even field recordings.

beranek’s debut album, “sound of danger”, was released on mind expanding records in november 1981. nowhere near as accessible as the previous single, the album fared poorly commercially. withdrawing from the single’s fun, kitsch pop, the album is cool and static, driven by thin rhythm boxes, cold synths, and glacial guitars. taking heavy cues from david bowie, all of the songs are sung in a nasally english accent, a rare occurrence in norway at the time. the lyrics are melancholic, but tinged with paranoia. there are also upbeat tracks that evoke a prog or glam sensibility a la king crimson, alan parsons, or roxy music. all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. housed in the original jacket featuring red, black, and white lines that evoke a visualized richter scale designed by monica moltzau. each copy includes a 2-sided 8x11” insert with lyrics and an autographed press photo of beranek.

folamour was responsible for one of the dreamiest, most colourful deep house records of recent times - the brilliant shakkei ep on all city so hopes are naturally high for this excursion on the producer s recently launched fhuo records. he kicks off proceedings with the thrillingly addictive very first touch, where dreamy pads and looped party samples cluster around a snappy, jazz-fuelled house groove, before ratcheting the energy levels up a notch or two via the rubbery slap bass, driving drum machine beats and warm rhodes chords of alerte a babylon. in between, you ll find pravis l estaque, a stomping deep house floor-burner blessed with some seriously good, jammed-out electric piano solos.
goldmin founder romain lanteaume aka einka meets terrence dixon for a 2nd record which is nothing but a logical suite to the one released last year. this one is probably less deliberately dark but to us the edge was not dark at all, like what we tend to call melancholy isn t obviously a negative feeling. we believe there s no real duality between things and states. there s an incredible amount of degress in between. its always a bit more complex and deeper than the first impression!

hailing from japan, iori wakasa is a name that has been gathering a great deal of hype over the past few years - and with good reason. having built up his skills as a majorly talented dj in tokyo spinning a wide range of sounds and styles, his reputation continues to grow at pace thanks to a string of amazing releases on labels such as highgrade and wirsindeins in recent years - not to mention strong support by some of the scenes biggest names. here he proves what all the fuss is about - a stunning three track ep on steve bugs dessous recordings. be there starts things off right - uber deep vibes throughout, with bubbling synths and spacey effects, all tied together by a hypnotic chandler-esque rhythm track. give me continues the vibe, deep and jazzy chords punctuate the shuffling rhythm and trippy vocal samples add a layer of wonkiness that will see this get a lot of attention. feel it dizzy strips things down a notch, a bass heavy dancefloor filler with dubbed out percussion, effects and vocals snippets. a triumphant ep from iori wakasa - truly one to watch.

love notes (from brooklyn) serves up another winner, this time with the sonic stylings of the illustious (and also brooklyn based) octo octa, whose not unimpressive discography already includes releases on such heavyweight labels such as running back, argot, and deepblak. from the opening, echoed chords and unique percussive qualities of eyes low, through the spaced out funk of touch formation, to the early morning vibes of i feel, this ep delivers on all levels. this is the 9th release on this fine american imprint and they show no signs of slowing down their sonic agenda.
